Abstract

820,327. Moulding hollow articles. COLLIPRESS G.m.b.H. Aug. 8, 1956, No. 24301/66. Class .87(2). Apparatus for moulding hollow articles comprises a number of pressing members, adapted to press a material, e.g. wood chips and synthetic resin, towards a core, the pressing members having their side faces inclined at an angle to their pressing faces and slidable relatively to sliding surfaces on supplementary pressing members which together with the main pressing members define a closed mould space about the core. Two pressing members 9 with inclined faces 18, engaging with inclined faces 19 of two further pressing members 17, are moved towards the core 11, forcing the members 17 towards the core and thus compressing the material 12. The pressing member may be heated, e.g. electrically, they may be closed in separate compression stages, the sliding surfaces of adjacent members may be composed of differing materials, the size of the core 11 may be adjustable and the material may be heated by passing steam through it during moulding. Two further embodiments are described, (1) a similar arrangement of pressing members producing a circular article with external strengthening ribs (2) an eight-fold pressing arrangement Figs. 5, 6 in which all members may be driven or the members 21 only may be driven, thus moving the members 20. A press Figs. 7, 8 is described with fixed upper and lower members 23, 22 and a press ram 24 with a pressing member 16 and a toggle mechanism 30, 31 operating the pressing members 9, 17. A bottom discharge frame 34, controlled by a hydraulic pressure cylinder 33, is provided.
