680,170. Arc welding electrodes. METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 4, 1950 [Dec. 28, 1949]. No. 19567/50. Class 39(iii) [Also in Group XXII] A welding head ha: a ceramic nozzle tc direct gas about ar electrode extending through and beyond the nozzle outlet from a clamp within the nozzle and has a tube of heat-resisting metal extending through and beyond the nozzle outlet and spaced from the electrode to prevent the nozzle reaching excessive temperatures. A tube 5, Fig. 1, of copper, stainless steel &c. is secured in the nozzle 3 by brazing with titanium hydride and silver-copper alloy 5a and has small clearance around the tungsten electrode 4. In a modification the tube 8, Fig. 2, is screwed into a metal ferrule 6 brazed in the nozzle 3 and inclined holes 9 are provided in the tube 8 to provide cooling of the tube 8 by gas flow and protection from oxidation. The tube may be secured directy into the nozzle. Specification 672,081 is referred to.
