Abstract
576,147. Coupling coaxial lines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CLAYTON, R. J. April 19, 1941, No. 5086. [Class 40 (iii)] Two coaxial cables of different diameters but having the same characteristic impedance are coupled by means of coaxial coapical cones, the space between which contains a medium having a different dielectric constant from the medium occupying the cables. The dimensions of the cones are determined by the equations and where b/a is the ratio of the radii of the outer and inner conductors of the coaxial lines, Á1 and #1 are the permeability and dielectric constant of the dielectric of the coaxial lines, 2#1, and 2#2 the apical angles of the inner and outer cores respectively and Á and c the permeability and dielectric constant of the dielectric in the coupling device. The boundary surface is defined by the equation where r is the length of the radius from the common apex to the surface and r=r, for #=0.
