Abstract

555,581. Internally expanding brakes. WAGNER ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Feb. 24, 1942, No. 2424 Convention date, March 31, 1941. [Class 103 (i)] The connection of the retraction spring 13 between the two shoes of an internal shoe-drum brake is made easier by connecting one end of the spring 22 to the shoe 9 through an intermediate member comprising a lever 16, 18 having one end 17 journalled in the shoe web. The spring is secured to the member when it is in the position shown dotted as at 20, this action being quite easy since the spring tension is then considerably relaxed. The lever 16, 18 is then rotated anti-clockwise to the position shown in full lines whereby the spring is stretched and held rigid by the engagement of the end of the part 16 with a fixed abutment 23.
