Abstract
460,842. Projectiles. BLACKER, L. V. S., and DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. May 4, 1935, Nos. 13363 and 18278. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile intended to knock a person unconscious, but not to kill him, for quelling mob riots, comprises a body portion b of elongated formation and a nose portion a of closed or solid form constructed of rubber or other yieldable material. The noseportion is preferably of spheroidal shape and larger than the orbit of the human eye. The body portion may be a thin shell of aluminium or other light material provided with tail fins c, and may have a cupshaped front end fitting into a corresponding cup g secured to the nose portion a. On impact, one cup may telescope into the other. The fins c may be made to rotate the projectile. The projectile may contain inflammatory, lachrymatory, vesicant, stupefying, or smoke-pro. ducing materials ignited when the projectile is discharged or on impact. These materials may be in a cavity in the nose portion a, or may be in the cups f, g, which are then perforated to allow the material to escape, the holes being normally closed by varnished paper. The projectile may be fired from the weapon described in Specification 446,570 by means of a propellent cartridge situated in the rear end h of a tail tube d. A further propellent charge may be inserted in the forward part i of the tube d to operate during the flight of the projectile. A similar construction of projectile without the propellent tube d may be used for dropping from aircraft.
