[Class 145 (ii).] A sawing-machine comprises a saw frame 1 carrying a blade 13 and carried by guide rods 5 working in a bracket 6 which can pivot about the driving shaft 4, the frame 1 being reciprocated by a crank. A second saw frame 7 has lugs 9 carrying rods 8 which pass through holes in the frame 1 ; the frame 7 thus moves with the frame 1 but is capable of vertical movement relative thereto. The frame 7 carries a blade 14 arranged oppositely to the blade 13, and is normally maintained in its uppermost position with respect to the frame 1 by springs 10 ; the frames are forced apart by cam levers 16 pivoted to the frame 1 and actuated by a rod 20 having stop pins 21 adapted to engage with the bracket 6 at the ends of the strokes. Two pieces of work 15 are arranged in a doubledeck vice, the lower being cut by the blade 14 on the forward stroke of the frames which are pressed apart by the levers 16 ; at the end of this stroke the levers are withdrawn so that the blade 13 is brought into operation, the blade 14 being then lifted from its work. Sliding cams or wedges may be substituted for the cam levers 16. Several blades adapted to cut in the same direction may be mounted in each of the frames or the two blades may be arranged side by side to cut the same piece of work.
