Abstract
354,953. Television receivers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Kendall, J. M. ; 2222, Story Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) July 10, 1930, No. 20913. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1929. [Class 40 (iii).] A picture is reproduced on a receiving screen by a constant light source in conjunction with a control screen comprising a number of electrostatically controlled shutters which, in response to the received signals, assume positions allowing light to pass through to the receiving screen corresponding to the light intensity of the elemental areas being reproduced. The signals from a receiver 13 are applied in sequence through a distributer 16 and condensers 18 to the fixed plates 21 of small variable condensers whose moving plates 19 correspond to elemental areas of the transmitted picture. According to the positions of the plates 19, light from the constant source 11 passes through the control screen 10 and a lens 15 to the receiving screen 12. In the case of the transmission of a succession of pictures the shutters corresponding to elemental areas having the same light intensity in successive pictures will not be reoperated.
