Abstract
255,324. M³ller, A. H. Jan. 9, 1926. Elevated railways with rigid track rails, for towing vessels on inland waterways, are suspended by a structure stiff in the vertical plane but yielding in the transverse plane. The rail b, Fig. 5, is carried by yokes e which swing about a pivot g and may carry an electric conductor l. The structure comprises trestles N. Fig. 4, with upper ties o, lower ties u, main tension diagonals d, t, compression verticals v and intermediates h. The tension members are constructed of round steel bars, and the compression members v may be omitted. Temperature changes in the rails are met on curves by changing the curvature of the rails, and on straights by incorporating in the rail at the supporting- point a member which is elastic in an horizontal plane. Additional tensioning means such as the spring m may also be used.
