Abstract

A stuffing box assembly (20) and method for use with wireline or slickline systems of the oil and gas industry. The improved assembly (20) comprises a module (23) having a packing chamber for providing a compression seal around a wireline. The module (23) may be removably attached to a body (21) attached in turn to wireline pressure control equipment. By removal of the module (23) or cartridge, downhole tools may be accessed and located directly through the body and through the wireline pressure control equipment. The assembly (20) is designed such that manual removal of the module may be safely carried out by a single operator. This reduces the cumbersome and hazardous practice associated with the handling of typical prior art systems.
