Abstract

A power tool 1 has one main body 2; one handle 3 attached to the main body; one battery 10 at the end of the handle opposite the main body; two chucks 6, 7 at different ends of the main body; two triggers 8, 9, both at the upper end of the handle; two forward/reverse selection switches 11, both on the main body; and two motors, both in the main body. The various components can be made from various materials including plastic, metal, aluminium and steel. One of the chucks preferably has a hammer action. Ideally the battery is rechargeable. The triggers could be spring loaded and allow variable speeds. Each trigger could be used to supply power from the battery to its associated motor to rotate a single chuck. One chuck could hold a drill bit while the other could hold a screwdriver bit so that the action of drilling a hole and then fixing a screw in it requires merely the rotation of the tool.

Description

TWIN DRILL DRIVER
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present nvention relates to combined driling and screwing devices known as drill drivers often used in the construction and DIY industries for drilling holes and screw driving screws to fix materials and objects. Traditionally when a screw is required to fix materials and objects, a hole would be drilled into the materials or objects for a screw to be driven into.
When using a conventional drill driver, first a drill bit would be fitted into the chuck of the drill driver, then a hole would be drilled. Once the hole has been drilled for a screw to be driven into, the drill bit would then be removed from the chuck of the drill driver, a screwdriver bit would then be fitted in the chuck of the drill driver to drive screw into the hole, fixing the materials or objects.
If there are many fixings required using screws, the drill bit and the screwdriver bit would have to be changed for each screw fixing, which is time consuming. The changing of drill bits and screwdriver bits can also be difficult if materials or objects have to be held in position by hand while changing from drill bits to screwdriver bits, it can also be awkward if for example holding on to a ladder or working at height.
Devices have been developed to overcome the problem of having to frequently change bits, by using double ended bits which have a drill bit at one end and a screwdriver bit at the other end.
However these bits still have to be removed turned around and fitted back into the chuck of the drill driver, this requires both hands.
To overcome these problems the present invention proposes a drill driver which has two chucks, which are used independently from each other, so that more than one function can be performed by one drill driver without the need to change bits.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described with reference to the following drawings, in which: Fig. 1 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 2 Shows a side view of the drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 3 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention in use; Fig. 4 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention in use; Fig. 5 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention in use; Fig. 6 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention in use; Fig. 7 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention in use; and Fig. 8 Shows a drilling and screwing device according to an embodiment of the present invention in use.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The invention will now be described in detail and by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawings Referring to Fig. 1 a drill drive device 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown. The device 1 has an electric motor housing 2 there are two electric motors contained in housing 2 the electrice motor housing 2 has a top side 21 and an under side 22, a first end 4 and a second end 5. There is a chuck 7 attached to first end 4, there is a chuck 6 attached to the second end 5, there is a handle 3 which protrudes from the underside of motor housing 22. The handle 3 has a top end 12 and a bottom end 13, at the top end 12 there is a trigger 8 and a trigger 9. At the bottom end 13 there is attached a battery 10.
Ther is a forward and reverse switch 11 which protrude from each side of the motor housing 2.
Reffering to Fig. 2 when trigger 8 is pulled in direction 19 electric power from the battery 10 powers the electric motor that drives rotating members which causes chuck 7 to tum. When trigger 9 is pulled in direction 20 electric power from batter 10 powers the electric motor that drives rotating members which cause chuck 6 to turn. Both trigger 8 and trigger 9 are connected to battery 10, but are not connected to each other.
Reffering to Fig. 3 which shows the device 1 in use drilling a pilot hole in a fascia board 16 so that a gutter bracket 15 can be fixed to the fascia board 16 using a screw 14. A drill bit for drilling wood 17 is fitted in chuck 7, a magnetic screw driver bit 18 is fitted in chuck 6.
A screw 14 is held on to magnetic screwdriver bit 18, trigger 8 is pulled in direction 19 which turns chuck 7 and wood drill bit 17 drilling a hole in fascia board 16 Reffering to Fig. 4 which shows device 1 in use fixing a gutter bracke 15 to fasciaboard 16 using a screw 14.
Once the hole has been drilled in fasciaboard 16 in Fig. 3, the device 1 is simply turned around so that the screw 14 which is already attatched to magnetic screwdriver bit 18 fixes the gutter bracket 15 to fasciaboard 16 to by pulling trigger 9 in direction 20, this turns chuck 6 which holds magnetic screwdriver bit 18 screwing screw 14 fixing gutter bracket 15 to fasciaboard 16, the functions of drilling and screwing can be repeated as is nessesary without the need to change drill bit 17 and magnetic screw driver bit 18.
Reffering to Fig. 5 which shows the device 1 in use drilling a hole in masonry to take a plastic fixing plug and a screw to fix a metal bracket to a stone or brick wall. A drill bit for drilling masonry 23 is fitted in chuck 7. A magnetic screwdriver bit 18 is fitted in chuck 6, a screw 14 is then attached to magnetic screwdriver bit 18 a hole is then drilled by pulling trigger 8 in direction 19 turning chuck 7 which has masomy drill bit 23 fitted in it.
Reffering to Fig. 6 which shows the device 1 fixing a bracket to masonry using a screw.
Once the hole has been drilled in masonry in Fig. 5 and a fixing plug is in the hole the device 1 is turned around to allow the screw 14 to be screwed into the plastic plug, fixing the bracket. This is done by pulling trigger 9 in direction 20 which turns chuck 6 which has the magnetic screwdriver bit 18 with the screw 14 already attached to it the screw 14 is then driven into the fixing plug fixing the bracket to the masonry. Both functions of drilling and screwing were performed with out changing bits.
Reffering to Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 which show device 1 in use drilling drilling drifferent sizes of holes so that timber 25 can be bolted to timber 26 using bolt 31. Bolt head 30 is required to sink below the flush face 32 of timber 26.
A flat wood drilling bit 24 is fitted in chuck 7. A wood drilling bit 17 is fitted in chuck 6. To drill the large hole 27 trigger 8 is pulled in direction 19 which turns chuck 7 drilling large hole 27. Once the large hole 27 has been drilling in timber 26. The device 1 is turned around so that the smaller hole 28 can be drilled through timber 26 and timer 25 to take the threaded section 29 of bolt 31. This is done by pulling trigger 9 in direction 20 which turns chuck 6 drilling small hole 28 with wood drilling bit 17
