Abstract

A fabric comprises two layers of a textile material having one or more slices of an organic foodstuff positioned between them. The slice(s) of organic foodstuff may be of apple, pear, kiwi fruit or star-fruit and are adhered to the two layers of material by means of a suitable adhesive. The fabric may be used in the manufacture of items of clothing, wall hanging drapes, curtains, panel screens, or other decorative articles.

Description

FABRIC Field of the Invention This invention relates to a new kind of fabric, for use in particular in the manufacture of decorative articles, such as fashion garments and accessories, wall hanging drapes, curtains and panel screens.
Statements of the Invention According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a fabric comprising two layers of a textile material having one or more slices of an organic foodstuff positioned between them, the slice(s) of organic foodstuff being adhered to the two layers of material by means of a suitable adhesive.
The organic foodstuff is preferably a fruit or vegetable, and the slice(s) are preferably relatively thin. The foodstuff may include, for instance, slices of apple, pear, kiwi fruit, star fruit or any mixture of fruits, depending on the effect to be achieved in the finished fabric. The fabric may contain slices of several different foodstuffs.
The textile material surrounding the slices of organic foodstuff is preferably relatively thin and transparent/ translucent. For example, chiffon, muslin or similar materials are appropriate.
The invention is based on the surprising discovery that, if foodstuff slices are glued to the surrounding layers of textile material, the glue serves to preserve the organic matter almost indefinitely. Thus, a fabric can be produced which has an extremely interesting and aesthetically pleasing appearance, without the risk of the decorative foodstuff slices deteriorating during use.
A suitable adhesive to use to attach the slices to the textile material is a PVA glue. The slices should be coated all over with the adhesive.
A fabric in accordance with the invention may be used in the same way as any other fabric, in the production for instance of clothing and accessories. It may, for instance, be used in the production of a ball gown or wedding dress.
A fabric of the invention may also be used in other decorative articles, examples being wall hanging drapes, curtains and panel screens.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a decorative article (clothing, accessory, wall hanging, drape etc) made at least partly from a fabric in accordance with the first aspect of the invention.

Claims (10)

1. A fabric comprising two layers of a textile material having one or more slices of an organic foodstuff positioned between them, the slice(s) of organic foodstuff being adhered to the two layers of material by means of a suitable adhesive.
2. A fabric according to claim 1 in which the organic foodstuff is a fruit or vegetable.
3. A fabric according to claim 2 in which the fruit or vegetable is an apple, pear, kiwi fruit or star-fruit or a mixture of these.
4. A fabric according to any one of the preceding claims where the textile material is transparent.
5. A fabric according to claim 4 where the textile material is chiffon.
6. A fabric according to any of the preceding claims where the suitable adhesive is PVA glue.
7. A decorative article made at least partly of fabric according to any of the preceding claims.
8. A decorative article according to claim 7 which is a ball gown or wedding dress.
9. A fabric substantially as herein described.
10. A decorative article according to claim 7 and substantially as herein described.
