Description

VEHICLE DOOR STABILISER Technical field This invention relates to a fully adjustable framework which once clamped to a vehicle door makes for easy and safe removal and replacement of the door.
Background The vehicle body repair trade have to on numerous occasions remove vehicle doors. At present this is a job for more than one person. This equipment enables one man to carry out the operation with ease and without causing any unnecessary damage to either the door or the surrounding paintwork.
Essential technical features The vehicle door stabiliser is a variably adjustable framework which by means of an upper arm and lower support arm which are both independently adjustable, is used to rigidly support doors during their removal and replacement. An additional adjustment is also present on the lower support arm which enables any fine adjustment to be carried out.The framework is mounted on four free-wheeling castors which have the facility of being lockable.
Referring to the drawings of the vehicle door stabiliser fig.(l).It consists of a V-shaped frame(3)which slides down over a vertically mounted support pole and is located at the desired height by pushing a pin through location holes drilled at intervals up the pole. There are feet(6)located at the end of the V frame these can be adjusted up and down, and also have the ability to be tilted from side to side.
In order to remove a vehicle door with the vehicle door stabiliser the door must first be opened to its fullest extent. The vehicle door stabiliser is then pushed up to the open door. The V-shaped frame is then slid up the support pole and located with the pin(5) at a position as close to the bottom of the door as possible. The feet can then be adjusted up until fitting tightly under the door, with the lip of the door located in the cut out on the feet. The top arm(7) is then slid over the pole and lowered until it can be positioned into the open window aperture.Once tightened into position the door is now rigidly mounted and can now be un-fastened and removed, by wheeling away.
When ready to replace door it can be pushed back up to the vehicle re-fastened and then the vehicle door stabiliser can be removed by carrying out steps described above in reverse.

Claims (4)

1. The vehicle door stabiliser is an adjustable framework which is used to rigidly support a vehicle door during removal and replacement.
2.The vehicle door stabiliser is capable of catering for a wide range of vehicle doors, made possible by the adjustment of the upper and lower arms independently.
3.The vehicle door stabiliser has the ability to cater for doors which do not sit parrallel to the ground by the independent adjustment of two feet mounted on the lower support arm. These feet are also able to tilt from side to side which means that they can follow as closely as possible the contour of the bottom edge of the door.
4.The feet as described in claim 3 are covered with a hard wearing rubber which prevents any damage to the bottom of the door and because of its construction will prevent the bottom of the door from sliding eff of the feet.
