Abstract

224,341. Pilkington Bros., Ltd., and Waldron, F. B. Sept. 26, 1923. Wheels.-In apparatus for polishing glass, marble, &c. having a rotating framework 1 carrying a number of polishing or abrading blocks 4 free to rotate about their axes, the spindle 2 of each block is mounted in the framework and at its lower end carries a boss 6 having a curved surface 10 engaging the block so that this may tilt. The plane of contact of the boss with the block is either substantially in the plane 11 containing the centre of gravity of the block, or is between the plane 11 and the operative face of the block so that centrifugal force on the block either does not affect the distribution of pressure between the block and the work, or causes an increase of pressure at points more distant from the axis of the framework than the axis of the block, whereby the rotation of the block is not retarded. A plate 8 allows the block to be raised when the frame is raised.
