Abstract
The invention relates to digital transmission substitution systems in which a digital communications connection can be transferred from a fault system to a correctly operating substitute system. When substitutions of this kind are to be effected, particularly in digital systems having a high bit transmission rate, the problem occurs of keeping the switchover time as short as possible so as to minimise disturbances in transmission. In addition there is the problem of avoiding the need for additional control lines between stations for the execution of the substitution. In a terminal station for such a system there is provided a selectively operated switching arrangement for effecting substitution and controlled by a control device arranged to transmit and receive via the substitute system information additional to the communications signal and indicative of, and providing control of, the substitution. The control device is activated in the event of a fault signal being emitted by a line terminal device. <IMAGE>
