Abstract

A wheel for a pneumatic tire and designed to minimize bead unseating has a bead retaining rib or hump 20,22 adjacent at least one bead seat and extending around at least a part of the circumference of the rim thereof, the radial height of the rib gradually increasing from a zero or minimum radial height at one point to a maximum predetermined radial height and then gradually decreasing to a zero or minimum radial height at another point. At its maximum radial height the rib preferably extends radially outwardly of the radially inner part of the bead core of a tire on the wheel (Figure 4 not shown). The rib may be continuous or may be constructed by a plurality of projections of varying radial heights. <IMAGE>
