Abstract

Device for dispensing constituents simultaneously from the two containers 3 comprises a housing 1 enclosing the two containers 3 the contents of which are dispensed through nozzle 8 upon piston rod 7 being displaced to cause respective ejectors or thrust pieces 5 to displace pistons 4 in the containers 3. The walls of the containers 3 separate the compositions, and these walls are severed, to permit the displacement of the rod 7, by a sharpened leading edge on a web or strap 6 connecting the two thrust pieces 5. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Dispensing device for multi-component compositions This invention relates to a dispensing device for multi-component compositions such as adhesive, sealing or filling compositions comprising containers, arranged side-by-side and separated from one another by separating walls extending parallel to the dispensing direction, for the components, and having an ejector associated with each container.
In a known dispensing device, each container has an ejector (or pressure piate) of its own, as well as a piston rod of its own. So that the components are always delivered in the same proportions, the piston rods are connected to one another at their ends opposite to the pressing direction. This arrangement is very expensive or complicated and requires a relatively large number of parts.
The problem underlying the invention is, therefore, to provide a simplified dispensing device.
In accordance with the invention, this is achieved in that the ejectors are connected to one another by way of a web or strap which has a cutting edge and which cuts through the dividing walls during dispensing. Since the ejectors are connected directly to one another, a common piston rod is sufficient. The web or strap having the cutting edge cuts through the dividing walls behind the piston. Resistance to the cuttingthrough of the dividing walls, which preferably consist of a plastics material, is relatively slight.
The common piston rod can be actuated by hand, by means of a ratchet mechanism or pneumatically. In each case, the actuation is considerably simpler than if a piston rod of its own is provided for each container.
For constructive reasons it is advantageous for the web or strap, having the cutting edge, to be integrally connected with the ejectors. The connection can be effected, for example, by soldering, adhering or welding. In addition, it is also possible to design the web in one piece with the ejectors.
For providing a simple design of the dispensing device, it is advantageous for two containers to be provided. The two containers can be arranged side-by-side. In principle it is alternatively possible to arrange the containers coaxially with one another. Such a coaxial arrangement yields the advantage of compact construction.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig. 1 is a sectional side view of a preferred embodiment of the dispensing device of the invention; Fig. 2 is a section through the device of Fig. 1, taken along the line Il-Il of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section through the device of Fig. 1, taken along the line Ill-Ill of Fig. 1.
The illustrated preferred embodiment of the multi-component composition dispensing device of the invention comprises a housing 1 and a lid 2 which closes the housing 1. Two containers 3 are arranged within the housing 1. The containers 3 contain the components of a multi-component composition e.g. an adhesive. A respective piston 4 is arranged in each of the containers 3, and a respective ejector or thrust piece 5 is provided to act on each piston 4. The two ejectors or thrust pieces 5 are connected to one another by means of a web 6 or strap 6 which has a cutting edge. A piston rod 7 is connected to the web or strap 6.
Upon advance of the piston rod 7, the two pistons 4 are displaced in the containers 3 by way of the thrust pieces 5 in the dispensing direction.
In so doing, the walls of the containers 3 are cut open by the cutting edge of the web or strap 6.
Since the two thrust pieces 5 are connected to one another, both pistons 4 are advanced simultaneously and therefore the components present in the two containers 3 are squeezed out of their containers 3 simultaneously and in a constant ratio. These components pass into a common mixing and devicery nozzle 8. When the containers 3 have been completely emptied, they can be replaced after unscrewing the lid 2 and drawing-back the piston rod 7.
Fig. 2 shows the two containers 3 as well as the ejectors or thrust pieces 5 which act on them.
The web or strap 6 having the cutting edge connects the two thrust pieces 5 to one another.
The piston rod 7 is connected to the web 6. Upon advance of the piston rod 7, this finds space between the containers 3.
Figs. 1 and 2 show an arrangement with two containers 3 in the housing 1. However, the dispenser could be designed to have also three or four containers 3 with respective pistons 4 and ejectors of thrust pieces 5.
Fig. 3 shows a section through the web 6, which connects the two thrust pieces 5 to one another. The thrust pieces 5 project into the container 3. Upon advance of the piston rod 7, the web 6 encounters the containers 3 and cuts these open with its cutting edge.
