Corner joints; boxes made from special blanks. -Sheet-metal boxes have the adjacent edges at the corners formed with teeth which are intermeshed until their roots abut and are then pressed down against the sides of the box. The blank may be of the form shown in Fig. 2, and the teeth of the forms shown at 1, Fig. 3, or 2, Fig. 6, or 6, Fig. 7. The spaces may exactly correspond in size with the teeth, or they may be larger than the teeth. The spaces 4 between the roots of the teeth may be narrower than the enlarged ends of the teeth 2, or, in a form not shown, the spaces between the roots of the teeth may be narrower than the roots of the teeth themselves so that in the finished joint the teeth are wedged together. The teeth may be curled or corrugated, so that, when the joint is finished, they are expanded and wedged in place. The teeth of any edge may be disposed on alternate sides of the adjoining edge, as shown at 5, 5<a>, Fig. 7. The joints described above may be combined with wires, strips, &c., round which the teeth may engage.
