Abstract

1508. Marshall, T. S. Jan. 19. Four-stroke-cycle engines; cylinders, cooling. Two or more radial cylinders which rotate in an opposite direction to the crank-shaft have open - ended cylinders, with adjustable ends, which revolve inside an outer stationary casing, the ends of the cylinders being held in engagement with the casing by centrifugal force. As shown in Fig. 1, a pair of open-ended cylinders have each an adjustable end k, which may slide slightly in the cylinder bore and bears against an outside casing b containing inlet and exhaust orifices and shaped as a truncated cone. If preferred, however, the casing may be dished or cylindrical. The ends of the cylinders slide in a ring i which rotates in contact with the casing. For cooling purposes, fan blades (not shown) may rotate with the cylinders.
