Abstract

1944. Highfield, J. S. Jan. 25. Conduits insulation.-Conductors, particularly for high-tension and direct currents, are carried, preferably as bare stranded cables k, Figs. 2 and 3, which may, however, be varnished, by insulators g held by resilient rings h in air-tight continuous metallic tubing through which clean dry air is pumped. The air is preferably under pressure, and should be filtered before use, e.g. by passing through a vessel filled with coke, and then dried by passing through a similar vessel containing a drying-agent, such as lime, so that water may be kept out, the insulation improved, and the condition of the system indicated by pressure gauges placed at suitable intervals. Relief valves e are provided throughout the system so that a continuous circulation of air may be maintained.
