Abstract
164,740. Berthier, A. V. P. M. Nov. 20, 1918, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-A gas-operated gun of the kind in which the sear engages a cocking-lug on the gas piston, is provided with a safety device adapted to retract the piston slightly beyond its cocked position and lock it with the cocking-lug out of contact with the sear. The safety device comprises a rotary pin 14 having a flattened part co-operating with a notch 18 in the piston 10, the notch having a flat vertical surface at the rear. The piston being in the cocked position, when the pin is turned its flat portion enters the recess in the piston and engages the rear flat surface thereof, and retracts the piston. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also the application of the safety device to any fire-arm in which a sear co-operates with a cocking-lug. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
