Abstract
1528742 Bituminous compositions SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 13 Oct 1975 [15 Oct 1974] 44605/74 Heading C3N [Also in Division C5] A bituminous composition comprises an optionally blown blend of a used lubricating oil and a bitumen. The composition can contain 5-95 wt. per cent of the used lubricating oil and can be produced by adding the used lubricating oil to bitumen having a temperature above its softening point and can be blown with 5-200 litres of air/kg. at 250-350‹ C. The used lubricating oil can be that removed from automobile engines at garages or from industrial machinery; the oil can be used as such or-treated by heating or distillation under atmospheric or reduced pressure to remove volatiles, by hydrofining or by blowing with air. The bitumen can be a long or short residue of a crude oil, a bitumen precipitated by extracting a distillation residue with propane or butane or a bitumen obtained by thermal or catalytic cracking of a distillation fraction or residue and can be blown with air prior to blending with the used lubricating oil.
