Abstract
1522764 Electrically heated metallurgical vessels CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 22 June 1976 [25 June 1975] 25831/76 Heading F4B [Also in Division H5] An electrically heated metallurgical vessel comprises a cylindrical shell 2 having a multilayer lining including an outer electrically and thermally insulating refractory lining 3-6, an electrically conducting layer 7 of high electrical resistance for example compressed granular graphite, an electrically insulating thermally conducting layer 8 e.g. pure alumina concrete, and an inner protective thermally conducting layer 9, e.g. a basic refractory. As shown the outer insulating lining comprises three layers 3, 4, 5 of ceramic felt followed by a contiguous layer 6 of spheroidal alumina concrete. The vessel is covered by a lid 10 of the same material as layer 6, the lid having an annular projection 11 serving to compress layer 7 through a locating ring 13. The electric heating means comprises the cylindrical graphite layer 7 and two diametrically opposed graphite rods 15, 16 extending through the lid 10, electrical supply to the rods is by means of water-cooled copper rings 18.
