Abstract

1436737 Railway vehicle undercarriages GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc 5 Sept 1973 41732/73 Heading B7L A railway vehicle bogie for supporting a vehicle body structure U, comprises a pair of wheeled axles 2, 3; bogie framing supported on the axles, the framing comprising side frames 7R, 7L mounted on axle journal boxes 5 and stub transoms 9R, 9L having transversely aligned extremities 13R, 13L carrying trunnion pins 15R, 15L pivotally received in bearings 17L, 17R of the side frames 7L, 7R; a pair of pneumatic flexible walled springs 23 mounted on each side frame; upwardly facing hollow rigid bearing members 27 secured to the tops of the springs 23 and each having a vertical aperture in its top wall to permit pressurised air to bear against an associated downwardly facing arcuate bearing plate 45 on the vehicle body structure U, the members 27 at each side of the bogie being connected together by a pipe reservoir 31 and prevented from moving longitudinally relative to the bogie framing by an anchor link 51 universally pivoted at its ends to brackets 47, 49 on the pipe 31 and respective side frame, elastomer and metal sandwich springs 59, 61, are mounted longitudinally of the bogie between the stub transoms 9R, 9L and an I-section post 55, 57 depending from the structure U. The post mounts brackets 67 pivotally connected by diverging links 69 to brackets 65 carried by the members 27, the longitudinal axes of the links 69 intersecting on the central vertical axis of the bogie. Elastic bumpers 75 carried by the transom extremities 13R, 13L are engageable laterally with the post 55, 57. The apertured top wall of the rigid bearing members 27 are each provided with an annulus 39 of material having a low surface friction, and an elastomeric grommet within the annulus 39, both the grommet and annulus engaging a respective plate 45. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,218,527.
