Abstract
1475287 Shock recording apparatus PLESSEY CO Ltd and E E HALL 4 Dec 1974 [26 Sept 1973] 45020/73 Headings G1J G1K and G1W [Also in Division G3] A recording arrangement for recording the number and degree of mechanical shocks experienced by a package, comprises a cantilever beam A which is arranged so as to be deformed in response to a mechanical shock, a photographic plate P disposed adjacent the free end of the beam A, and means associated with the beam A for causing the plate P to be exposed to light to afford a record of the deformation of the beam. Said means may comprise an optical fibre O and light source S. Three cantilever beams may be provided along three co-ordinate axes each beam having a corresponding plate P but preferably sharing a common light source. The light source may be operable only for a period of time when one or more of the beams are in the vicinity of maximum deformation, this being effected by a transducer associated with each co-ordinate axis and monostable means arranged to be triggered when the output of at least one of the transducers exceeds a predetermined level, the monostable means operating the light source. Said means may comprise a dual monostable circuit and the light source a cold cathode spark gap. A mass M may be associated with each beam A, the position of the mass along its respective beam defining the bending characteristics thereof.
