Abstract

1473833 Companders DOLBY LABORATORIES Inc 13 May 1974 [17 May 1973] 50144/76 Divided out of 1473831 Heading H4R The Specification repeats the description in the parent Specification 1,473,831, but relates to a circuit for modifying the dynamic range of an input signal, comprising a series connection of a dynamic range linear impedance including a resistor, and a two terminal variable impedance (Fig. 9a) including a frequency selective circuit responsive to the current in that impedance to introduce a voltage across it, the frequency selective circuit comprising a variable filter restricting the introduced voltage to one tenth of the voltage across the dynamic range linear impedance at maximum input signal level, and instantaneous limiting means (such as antiparallel diodes, possibly in an amplifier loop) to suppress overshoot of the introduced voltage.
