Abstract

1469343 Apparatus for overlapping or folding bag inserts WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 19 April 1974 [9 May 1973] 17311/74 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for laying a film web in Z- shaped folds or for overlapping separate portions of film web or for folding over the ends of separate portions of film web comprises a reciprocable folding blade 12 for engaging the web which is held on a first conveyer 1 by suction, a static charge or an adhesive coating, and introducing it into the nip 19 of a second conveyer 2 which is slower than the first conveyer 1. The first conveyer 1 may comprise a plurality of spaced and perforated belts 3 which pass over bars 6 having slits 18 through which suction is applied. The folding blade 12 is a comb-like structure, the tines of which pass between the belts 3. The guide roller 4 of the first conveyer 1 has suction nozzles over its periphery or cooperates with a guide belt 17 or roller, Fig. 1 (not shown). Air from nozzles 14 can blow the leading ends of separate web portions into the nip 19. To produce Z-shaped folds in a web, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the folding blade 12 pushes the upper end of a loop of web which is formed between the first and second conveyers 1 and 2 and has one limb held on the first conveyer 1, into the nip 19. To overlap separate web portion ES, the leading end of one web portion ES is introduced into the nip 19 by the folding blade 12 and/or a blast of air from the nozzles 14 while the trailing end of the preceding web portion is still held on the first conveyer 1. The web or web portions are laid on a paper web 10 by the second conveyer 2.
