Abstract

1443092 Boring earth &c KENNAMETAL Inc 3 April 1974 [23 April 1973] 14721/74 Heading E1F An earth boring drill bit of the type consisting of a body 10 having hard wear resistant inserts has axially disposed inserts 22 on the working face 14 of the body, angularly disposed gauge inserts 28 arranged around the junction of the working face 14 and side wall 16, and radially disposed inserts 32 spaced around the side wall 16. All the inserts may be made of cemented tungsten carbide, the inserts 22, 28 having domed heads 24, 30 and the inserts 32 having square heads 34. The iserts 32 are arranged directly above the gauge inserts 28 with the diagonals of the square heads 34 disposed vertically and horizontally as shown in Fig. 1. A second row of squareheaded inserts 38 may also be provided on the side wall 16, the inserts 38 being staggered from the inserts 32.
