Abstract

1442421 Tetrahydronaphthalenes E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 3 July 1973 [3 July 1972] 31656/73 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R<SP>1,2,8,9</SP>=H, C 1-8 alkyl, Ph-(C 1-8 alkyl); R<SP>7</SP> = H, Me; Ph=phenyl, optionally C 1-8 alkyl, halogen or nitro substituted) and their acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts are prepared by reacting an alkali metal derivative of the parent amino tetrahydronaphthalenediol with epichloro- or bromohydrin or the methyl derivative thereof, or with allyl or #-methallyl chloride followed by reaction with a peracid, and reacting the product with R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>NH. The above compounds are #-adrenergic blocking agents, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
