Abstract

Compound pumps; piston pumps; pump-actuating mechanism. - Relates to multi-cylinder apparatus of the wobbler type, and consists in providing a central rotating valve secured to the driving-shaft so that a single central inlet pipe and a single central delivery pipe may be used. In the pump shown in Figs. 1 to 3, the central valve 7 is secured to the driving-shaft 6 and has the wobbler keyed on its central reduced part. The cylinder ports 12, by means of slots 13, 14, communicate alternately with the corresponding suction chambers 15 and delivery chambers 18, which are connected in pairs by passages 16, 19, so that single suction and delivery pipes 17, 20 may be used. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the chambers 15 are connected by an annular passage 16, and the chambers 18 by a tube 19. Fig. 5 shows a two-stage compressor composed of two tandem units such as are described above, in which a cooling-coil 24 connected to the jackets 21', 21<2> is employed. Fig. 6 shows another form of two-stage compressor in which the delivery ends of the valves are placed together, and the air from the first unit passes through a pipe 27 traversing the jacket 21'. Multi-stage compressors can be built of the necessary number of units arranged tandem-wise.
