Abstract
1310333 Grinding PROPPER MFG CO Inc 24 Feb 1971 5318/71 Heading B3D A machine for grinding the edges of glass articles, such as slides 8 for carrying specimens, comprises frame means 7 for holding the articles, a grinding wheel 3a for engaging the edges of the articles held in the frame means, and means for moving the frame means radially of the grinding wheel. The grinding wheel is mounted on a shaft 3 rotated by a motor 2 in a frame 1. A plate 4 having an eccentric groove 5 is supported on the shaft 3 by a collar (not shown), the groove being engaged by a pair of rollers 6, each roller being connected to a respective frame 7 which clamps the articles 8 and is guided for reciprocatory movement radially of the grinding wheel. The plate 4 may be fixed to shaft 3 or rotate on the shaft and be driven by an independent drive, such as an annular motor 7a held against rotation, or by gearing connected to a variable speed motor.
