Abstract

1350614 Electromagnets PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 40303/71 Heading H1P A remanent electromagnetic actuating device has a permanent magnet armature 20 made of finely divided permanent magnetic material bonded in a resilient synthetic material. The armature has a soft iron strip 11 arranged for rotation. The remanent core 3 surrounded by an energizing coil has pole pieces 4, 5 bridged by the permanent magnet armature. The central portion of the permanent magnet armature 20 is polarized across its width in the opposite direction to the end 22 which co-operates by way of a soft iron insert 23 with polepiece 5. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the armature co-operates with identical L-shaped polepieces. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the construction is similar to Fig. 3 except that the permanent magnet of the armature co-operates with an L-shaped polepiece whilst the soft iron strip co-operates with a straight polepiece. Fig. 4 (not shown) is similar to Fig. 2 except for the provision of a permanent magnet between the polepieces. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the armature co-operates with a pot-shaped electromagnet, bridging a central polepiece and a surrounding annular polepiece. The device may be used for moving a rubber thrust roller which in the armature attracted position presses a magnetic recording tape against a capstan.
