Abstract

1,202,706. Arched buildings. E. J. COHEN. 14 June, 1968 [9 May, 1967], No.21597/ 67. Addition to 1,101,967. Heading E1A. An arched building member 31 or an arched roof for a hanger is erected to a given camber by applying a compressive force at least to one end thereof. The force is applied by a jack 43, winch or screw threaded tensioner acting on a chain, rope or cable 41 arranged as shown. The chain passes from an anchorage block 35 through tubes, provided on the member 31, to a sliding bearing block 38, 39, the tubes being clamped to the cable by grub screws 45 in the set position. The ribs, cross members or cladding of the building may be made of metal, glassfibre reinforced resins or timber. Specification 1,101,967 is referred to.
