Abstract

1287437 Bone-securing device TSENTRALNY INSTITUT TRAVMATOLOGII I ORTO PEDII 10 Sept 1969 44736/69 Heading A5R A clamping apparatus for securing portions of bone comprises an adjustable jig for holding two bars 1, 2 tightly on the outside of a bone, diametrically opposite to each other, which adjustable jig includes a removable drilling jig 15 to facilitate the drilling of holes through the bone to cooperate with preformed holes 13, 14 in bars 1 and 2 respectively in order to connect the bars by means of screws (3) Fig. 1 (not shown), which bars and screws then form a clamp around the bone in the form of an inter-connected frame. The adjustable jig comprises a U-shaped body 4 having two curved stationary jaws 5 and a jaw 6, movable by a screw 7 which is prevented from moving axially by a groove 8 into which a screw 9 is received. A plate (10) Fig. 4 (not shown) is secured to the jaw 6 by two screws (11) to prevent shaking. Recesses are provided in jaws 5 and 6 for receiving the titanium bars 1, 2. Bar 1 has two tapped holes 13 and the bar 2, two plain holes 14. In use, jaws 5 are placed beneath the bone and the screw 7 tightened to tightly press bars 1, 2 against the bone. Jig 15 is placed into recesses in the jaw 6 and after drilling the jig 15 is removed, screws (3) tightly screwed into the bar 1, and the adjustable jig removed.
