Abstract

1281723 Injection moulding IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Sept 1970 [15 Sept 1969] 45295/69 Heading B5A In a process for injection moulding by sequentially injecting two dissimilar synthetic resins to form an article having a core enclosed by a skin, a cavity defining the shape of the article to be moulded is provided with at least one extension into which excess skin material is forced by injection of the core material. The excess material is removed from the article during or after moulding, e.g. by means of cutting knives movably mounted in the mould. The invention enables uniform thickness of skin material to be produced even in corners and edges of the article. The core material may be foamed. The moulded article may be a panel or interior trim for a motor car and may incorporate an insert, e.g. a sheet of plywood, hardboard, metal or plastics. The mould surface may be textured or coated with a heat resistant material, e.g. silicon rubber.
