Abstract
1,244,911. Pipe joints. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 31 Dec., 1969 [9 Jan., 1969], No. 1309/69. Heading F2G. [Also in Division F4] In a recuperator wherein a plurality of ceramic tubes 3 extend between opposite walls 5a of a waste gas off-take duct, the clearance between the outer surface of one end 3a of each tube 3 and the duct wall 5a is sealed by an annular seal 27 disposed in the region of the outside surface of the duct wall, the end 3a being slidable relative to the seal to allow for tube expansion. The seal 27 is compressed by a clamping ring 29 secured to the duct wall by bolts or by a bayonet fitting (see Fig. 5, not shown). The other end 3b of each tube is surrounded by a further seal 27a and has a flanged part 3c which bears against a clamping plate 28 secured to the duct wall. Preferably the seals 27, 27a are of fibrous refractory material such as alumina silicate wool. When the tubes are mounted vertically (Fig. 7, not shown), the lower end of each tube is received in a recess (40) in the upper face of the duet wall and surrounded by a seal (42).
