Abstract
1,241,186. Injection moulding. BUHLER A.G. GEB. 3 Oct., 1968 [4 Oct., 1967], No. 46921/68. Heading B5A. An injection moulding machine of the type in which one or more injection screws rotate and axially reciprocate in a cylinder includes a rotary dosage regulator 24, Fig. 4, at the base of a moulding material feed hopper 13 whereby the quantity of material fed to the feed zone of the screws via a duct 16 is controlled. The regulator has vanes extending radially from a drive shaft 15 and sandwiched between end discs 21, and the shaft may be driven by a unit 4 and a variable gear 19 which drives the screw or by a variable speed electric motor 17; a magnetic. coupling 18 is located between the drives 4 and 17. In an alternative system, the regulator is driven either from the unit 4 or a constant speed electric motor, and in the latter case the dosage adjustment is made by variably masking the compartments between the radial vanes by means of a sleeve 23 adjustable, axially of the shaft 15, by rotating a closure 27. The injection screw comprises a feed zone at the rear end, a metering zone at the front end and an intermediate compression zone; the depth of the threads at the feed zone is greater than that at the metering zone and continuously decreases in the compression zone.
