Abstract
1,139,239. Studs. F. P. WHALEY. 1 Nov., 1967 [20 Dec., 1966], No. 56922/66. Heading A3B. A stud having a screw threaded boss 3, a flange 1 and a spike 2 is provided with locking means consisting of at least one arched tongue 4 integral with the flange 1 and having a free tip which is raised with respect to the flange 1 (Fig. 1) so that the stud can be screwed into the sole 6 without hindrance, the tip 4<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 2) being subsequently forced into the sole to prevent unscrewing of the stud. The tongue 4 may be formed by a cut extending from the edge of the flange 1 as shown or may be pressed out of an inner region of the flange (not shown). The tongue 4 may be freed in order to remove the stud by the insertion of a tool e.g. a screwdriver or knife blade, under the arched portion 5. A portion of the flange adjacent the tongue may be cut away to facilitate the insertion of the tool.
