Abstract

1,134,938. Photographic and thermographic transfer processes. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. Feb.2, 1966 [Feb.10, 1965], No.4647/66. Heading G2C. Powder images are produced either by (i) contacting an original with a material comprising a support on which is coated or vacuum deposited a compound releasing water of crystallisation on heating, exposing to infrared and developing the wetted areas with a super-coolable material melting between 70‹ and 170‹C. or by (ii) contacting an original with a material comprising a support coated with a diazonium salt or an azide or diazide, exposing to light and developing the latent image with a super-coolable material as in (i), and then transferring the image of super-coolable material to a receptor sheet by heating, developing the transferred image with a powder and fixing the powder image. A positive or negative image may be formed on infrared exposure of the compound containing the water of crystallization; the negative image being formed on long exposure when all water has been evaporated from the image area. Specified super-coolable materials are chlorinated polyphenols, benzotriazole, tribenzylamine, vanillin, phtholophenone, 2, 4- dihydroxybenzophenone, benzil, sulphur, acetanilide, benzoic acid, phthalic anhydride and o-and p-toluene sulphonamides, and may contain a pigment. The powder developer may be conventional electro-photographic toner and may be fixed by heating or solvent vapour. When developing the material used in (ii) above, the developer powder is rubbed into the material causing an electrostatic charge to be generated therein which varies over the image areas causing imagewise variations in powder distribution.
