Abstract

1,121,141. Knitting-machines. WILLIAM COTTON Ltd. 17 Aug., 1965 [20 Aug., 1964], No. 34018/64. Heading D1C. Latch guards 27, are secured to or mounted in the same tricks as the machine latch needles of a straight bar rib machine to deflect the loops falling from the noses of the sinkers and thereby ensure that they are received on the hook side of the latches. Integral with the latch guards or also secured to the needles are loop spreaders 28 which serve to spread the loops when it is desired to transfer them to the frame needles for the production of plain work. In addition the frame needles are secured in two bars, one receiving the alternate needles and the other the intermediate needles so that during rib work the alternate needles are retained at an inoperative level by holding their needle bar in a lowered position.
