Abstract

1,189,962. Filling pressurized spray containers. C. G. SIEBEL. 13 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 7889/69. Heading B8T. [Also in Division Fl] A pressurized spray container 28 is charged either with a liquid or a gaseous propellent, from sources 7 and 8 respectively, by means of a pneumatic piston 3 and cylinder 1, an extension or hollow rod 6 of the piston being lubricated from an annular chamber 14, the charging material entering a tempered chamber 19 before being expelled through a detachable filling head 9 surrounded by a jacket 31 for cooling liquid. Sealing rings 17 and 18 are of chemically resistant material. Filling liquefied propellent.-Liquefied propellent gas is delivered, by means of a pump 49, from the source 7, through a three-way valve 44 and a valve 43 and into the charging chamber 19. The pressure on the liquid is increased by charging the driving cylinder 1 until it exceeds the closing force of a piston 23 in the filler head 9, whereupon the latter separates itself from a gasket 25 and liquefied propellent gas flows into the pressurized spray container 28. Filling gaseous propellent.-Gaseous propellent is delivered from source 8, reduced to the required pressure by a valve 47, brought to the required temperature by passing through a coil 46 in a container 32 for tempering liquid, passed through valves 44 and 43 and into the charging chamber 19. The gas is then compressed and discharged into the pressurized spray container 28 as in the case of a liquid. In this case, unlike with the liquid, compression releases thermal energy but part of the heat may be conducted away by liquid in the tempering jacket 30.
