Abstract

1,166,474. Double glazing. O. R. DUNN. 6 Oct., 1966 [11 July, 1966], No. 31040/66. Heading E1R. A single glazed window having a pane 22 in a frame 48 is converted into a doubleglazed window by locating a second pane 44 in the frame 48 by means on each side of the frame of an angle member 10 having on the outer surface of one arm 12 a projection 16 for carrying a seal strip 20 adapted to contact and seal against the pane 22, and on the inner side of the other arm 14, a dovetailed rib 26 for co-operation with an inverted-U retaining strip 28 which clips over the rib to retain the second pane in position. The corners of the frame 10 are mitred and the frame 10 secured to the framed 48 e.g. by adhesive. Foamed polyurethane 42 is attached to the inner face of the arm 12 as a cushion for the pane 44. The members 10 and 28 may be of extruded aluminium or plastics and the slot between the two flanges 30, 32 of the strip 28 may be to one side of the central axis of the strip to provide for different thicknesses of the pane 44. Members 28 are dimensioned so that the lower one fits right across the bottom of the frame 10, the two vertical lengths abut on the end regions of the bottom length and the top of the frame 10 and the fourth length fits at the top of the frame 10 between the two vertical lengths.
