Abstract
1,004,947. Sampling granular material. ROBERT BOBY Ltd. March 2, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13277/63. Heading B8N. An apparatus for sampling free-flowing granular materials comprises a shoot for the material having an outlet in its floor 1a and a sampling tube 3 passing through the outlet and provided with an inlet 4 whereby proportional amounts of the material flow into the tube and thence, by gravity, out thereof into a container 6. The tube is rotatable in the shoot by means of a collar 5, so that the position of the inlet 4 may be altered in relation to the flow of material in order to vary the amount of sample material delivered. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the tube is rotated by an electric motor 8 via a gear-box 9 and a train of elliptical gears 11, the latter gears providing means whereby the tube may be rotated rapidly during the time the inlet 4 is directed towards the flow of material; alternatively, by suitable positioning of the motor housing 7, the tube may be rotated slowly.
