Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improved speculum with incorporated lighting.
As is known, the vaginal specula used in gynecology include a pair of valves, one of which is adjustable relative to the other to cause the enlargement of the vaginal cavity in order to facilitate its examination, treatment or '' possible surgical interventions.
During interventions or examinations performed in the vaginal cavity with the help of the speculum, the illumination of said cavity is generally ensured by means of a mirror lamp mounted on a collar, which the doctor wears on his forehead. However, such a lighting system has drawbacks in that it does not illuminate the vaginal cavity sufficiently for certain procedures. In these latter cases, an independent projector can be placed at an appropriate location in the room where the intervention takes place, to improve the lighting conditions. However, such a system also fails to provide illumination of the entire vaginal cavity, and in particular the illumination of the cervix.
The present invention therefore aims to provide a speculum that better meets the needs of practice than the speculums proposed in the prior art, in particular in that it is provided with built-in lighting which solves the problems of lighting of the vaginal cavity that has not been resolved by the lighting systems proposed so far.
The subject of the present invention is a speculum with incorporated lighting, characterized in that the internal face of at least one of the valves which compose it is provided with a light source.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the speculum with incorporated lighting in accordance with the invention, the light source which is carried by the internal face of at least one of the valves consists of an electric bulb of appropriate shape and dimensions
According to another advantageous embodiment of the speculum with incorporated lighting in accordance with the invention, the light source which is carried by the internal face of at least one of the valves consists of at least one optical fiber associated with a beam of light # monocbromatic of the laser type.
According to the invention, the source of electrical energy which supplies the light source (s) consists of an external energy source such as connection to the mains; or by at least one battery.
According to an advantageous arrangement of the invention, in the case where the light energy source is constituted by at least one battery, the latter is mounted on the internal face of the external flared end of one or both valves of the speculum.
According to another advantageous arrangement of the invention, the stack is placed in a receptacle provided on the external branch of the speculum which carries the screw for adjusting the spacing of the speculum valves or in a receptacle forming a handle, optionally removable, mounted on the joint pin of the two valves.
According to yet another advantageous arrangement of the invention, the closing of the circuit for supplying electrical energy to the light source is carried out using a contact carried by the external branch of the speculum opposite to that which carries the screw. adjustment, which is excited by the end of the adjustment screw when actuating the latter for the purpose of spacing the valves of the speculum.
According to another advantageous arrangement of the invention, the circuit for supplying electrical energy to the light source is closed using a switch associated with the battery or batteries.
In addition to the foregoing provisions, the invention also comprises other provisions, which will emerge from the description which follows.
