Abstract

Mouldings are made of porcelain, pottery, ceramics or other materials, where a barbotine is injected by pressure into a porous mould so the water in the barbotine flows through the mould walls to leave a paste moulding suitable for baking. Compressed air is then forced in a known manner through the mould walls to strip or eject the moulding. Pref. a vertical stack of moulds is used, each consisting of a lower and upper mould half with an inlet supplied with barbotine from a common inlet manifold; and pipes fitted with valves are used for the selective feeding of compressed air to either mould half in the vertical stack, each half contg. pipes feeding the air through the strong, porous mould material. The moulds are satd. with water, and the pressure of the barbotine drives air and water out of the mould cavities, the moulds rmaining wet and being continuously reused. Mouldings with a consistent thickness are obtd.
