Abstract

One shot mouldings incorporating sheet reinforcement or decoration. Process comprises clamping a (plastic) sheet or textile between cavity blocks and injecting (foam forming) plastic material against one face of the sheet before raising the injection pressure sufficiently to burst the sheet where it is not adequately supported by the mould surface behind it. Pref. the mould profile changes boldly where any break-through of the injection feedstock is required. Making decorative (imitation wood) mouldings, where the sheet is to contrast with the moulding material and is partially exposed. Pref. the sheet or fabric is softened by and compatible with the injected material. More efficient than independent moulding procedures on opposite sides of sheet. Use of polyurethane or PVC sheet mentioned.
