Abstract

The drum brake for a vehicle has at least one hydraulic operating component contg. a piston travelling in a housing hole, and a second seal fitted between a first seal and the housing hole. Between the housing hole and the piston is a pressure chamber is formed. When a vacuum is present in the pressure chamber, the piston moves in the housing hole, pressing a brake shoe against the brake drum. The first seal (60) is doformed on brake application, whilst the piston (36) moves within the housing hole (34). Thus a return force results which guides the piston back inside the housing hole (34) when the brake operation is terminated. A conductor (46) engages the piston (36) and brake show (24) to prevent them separating.
