The present invention relates to a method for producing a housing for an exhaust gas treatment device for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, having the features of the preamble of
Usually has a used in motor vehicles exhaust gas treatment facility such. For example, a particulate filter, a catalytic converter, a silencer or any combination thereof, a housing, the circumference of a shell and the end each having a bottom. It is also customary to design at least one connection, namely an exhaust gas inlet or an exhaust gas outlet, on at least one of these end-side bottoms.
For different installation situations, which can vary greatly with different vehicle types or applications, it is necessary to be able to mount the respective exhaust gas treatment device with different spatial positions. For example, different angles between a longitudinal central axis of the housing and supplying or discharging gas lines must be realized for this purpose.
For this purpose, it is for example possible to design the respective bottom as a funnel, which is produced integrally with a corresponding connection piece, wherein a longitudinal center axis of the respective connection piece can be inclined relative to the longitudinal central axis of the housing in a corresponding manner. Around Now, to be able to realize a multiplicity of different feed angles or discharge angles, a corresponding number of suitably configured hoppers must be provided. This is associated with a considerable amount of tools and warehousing and logistics.

The present invention is concerned with the problem for a housing of an exhaust gas treatment device of the type mentioned a way show that allows in particular a simplified production and thus a cheaper production.
This problem is solved according to the invention by the subject matters of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments are the subject of the dependent claims.
The present invention is based on the general idea to design at least one of the end bottoms of the housing as a hood, which is spherical or spherical segment-shaped. This particular hemispherical hood can be provided, for example with the help of a corresponding tool in a quasi arbitrary spatial position with a connection opening. At this connection opening a standardized connection piece can then be particularly easily recognized and connected to the hood. In this way, with the help of only two standard components, namely the hood and the connecting piece, a virtually arbitrary spatial orientation of the connecting piece with respect to the longitudinal central axis of the housing can be achieved, which is designed individually for the respective installation situation. The proposed construction thus makes it possible to inexpensively adapt exhaust treatment devices to widely varying installation situations. According to the invention, it is provided that the connecting end of the connecting piece facing the hood lies in a plane which is inclined with respect to a normal plane extending perpendicular to the longitudinal central axis of the connecting piece, for example by approximately 45 °. By such oblique or beveled connecting piece, it is particularly possible to realize an angle of 90 ° between the longitudinal center axis of the connecting piece and the longitudinal central axis of the housing.
Suitably, the respective connecting piece may be formed at its hood-facing terminal end complementary to the outer contour of the hood. As a result, a flat contact between the connecting piece and hood can be realized. For example, the connecting piece is equipped at its connection end with an annular, spherical segment-shaped collar which is shaped to match the spherical shape or spherical segment shape of the hood. Such a shape simplifies assembly and at the same time allows easy tolerance compensation.
On the hood, a collar can be integrally formed, by means of which the hood can be releasably attached via a clamp connection on the jacket.
In a kit according to the invention, with the aid of which the housing according to the invention for exhaust gas treatment facilities can be produced or with the aid of the inventive method for producing the housing for the exhaust gas treatment facilities can be performed, there is at least one type of jacket, with the help of the respective jacket of the respective housing can be made, at least one hood type without connection opening and matching the respective jacket type and at least one connection piece type suitable for the respective hood. It is clear that for different sized exhaust treatment devices as well different types of shells, hood types and connection types can be provided.
Other important features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims, from the drawings and from the associated figure description with reference to the drawings.
It is understood that the features mentioned above and those yet to be explained below can be used not only in the particular combination given, but also in other combinations or in isolation, without departing from the scope of the present invention.
