Definitions
- the technical field of the invention is that of devices for ensuring the connection between a socket and a projectile and more particularly the devices enabling a combustible socket and a large caliber projectile (caliber greater than 45mm).
- Low pressure sealing is essential in first tenths of a millisecond after switching on propellant charge contained by the combustible case. In the containment provided by such a socket is lower than that obtained with a metal socket and the displacement of the projectile occurs for more pressure low. A joint insufficiently sensitive to be operational as soon as ignition risks passing gas towards the front of the projectile, which would decrease the yield propellant charge.
- the socket is fixed at the level of the skirt integral with the belt generally by riveting.
- the device according to the invention provides a fixing simple and reliable while increasing the length effective belt which improves tightness, even for shots in worn tube.
- the subject of the invention is a connecting device between a shell and a projectile carrying a belt sealing having a rear skirt ensuring a low pressure sealing and a front bead housed in a first projectile groove, device comprising a ring having a flared rear part intended to be rendered secured to the socket and a front part made integral of the projectile by a fixing means, device characterized in that the front part of the ring is housed between the rear skirt of the belt and the projectile and has a spout cooperating with the first groove or with a second projectile groove.
- the spout is housed in the first groove with a conical bottom, the top of the cone being disposed on the side of a rear part of the projectile.
- the front part of the ring may be in abutment against a internal profile of the belt.
- the front part of the ring may have a profile which will cooperate with a complementary profile of the belt.
- the device also prevents the belt from being subjected to mechanical stress transmitted by the projectile or the case.
- the front part of the ring will be housed then in a second groove and may include at least an internal groove arranged according to a generator and allowing gas to pass through the ring up to the belt.
- At least one groove may cooperate with an obstacle, such as a pawn or a key, which will be united with the projectile, such cooperation allowing to make integral in rotation the ring and the projectile.
- an obstacle such as a pawn or a key
- the front part of the ring may have a surface stop capable of cooperating with a rear surface complementary to the belt, a first game existing between these two surfaces when the belt and the ring are in their respective gorges.
- the ring may include an internal counterbore forming a stop and intended to cooperate with an abutment surface of the projectile, a second clearance existing between this counterbore and the projectile, the second game being greater than the first game.
- the invention also aims to propose a method for mounting a belt on a projectile, a process which is simpler and less expensive than the known method described in particular by patent EP307307.
- the belt / connecting piece is attached to the projectile by injection around the projectile.
- the method according to the invention makes it possible to manufacture part of binding and belt independently of the hoof.
- the assembly only being carried out during a later stage.
- the production is thus simplified and the cost reduced.
- the mounting method according to the invention of a belt on a projectile is characterized in that one does slide the belt and the ring in one operation connection along the projectile, the ring pushing the belt until the ring and the belt are clipped in their respective gorges.
- Ring and belt can be made of a material plastic and we will heat the ring and the belt before their installation.
- a projectile 1 which is here an arrow projectile including a shoe 3 surrounding a bar 4, is made integral with a combustible socket 2 by a connection device according to a first mode of production.
- This device comprises a ring 5 which has a flared rear part 6 which is made integral with the combustible socket 2, for example by rivets 7 regularly distributed angularly.
- the ring has a front part 8 which is made integral with the projectile 1 by a fixing means.
- the projectile 1 carries a sealing belt 9 which has a rear skirt 10 intended to ensure a low pressure seal in the barrel.
- the belt 9 has a front bead 11 which is housed in a first annular groove 12 arranged on the projectile.
- the groove 12 has a conical bottom. The taper of the throat is oriented so that the top of the cone is arranged with the side of a rear rear part of the projectile. So the diameter at the bottom of the groove 12 is increasing between the rear AR and the front AV of the projectile.
- the front part 8 of the ring 5 is housed between the rear skirt 10 of the belt 9 and the projectile 1.
- This front part 8 of the ring has a spout 13 which is housed in the groove 12 of the projectile.
- the front part 8 of the ring 5 has a profile which cooperates with a complementary profile of the belt.
- the outer surface of the ring is in contact on the internal surface of the skirt 10 of the belt and the beak 13 has a rounded external profile 14 which is housed in a additional pocket on the belt 9.
- Ring and belt are both made of materials plastics, for example of the polyethylene type for the ring and polyamide for the belt.
- the length of the spout 13 is defined so that the ring ensures the axial immobilization of the belt in the groove 12. The spout 13 is then pinched between the bead front 11 of the belt and the rear edge 12a of the groove 12.
- Link ring and belt are manufactured by elsewhere in a conventional manner, for example by injection.
- connection device makes it possible to define a projectile equipped with a belt 9 having a skirt relatively long rear 10 (25 to 30 mm for a caliber of 120mm). This skirt guarantees an excellent level propellant tightness for pressure levels weak.
- the gas pressure ensures the separation of the ring 5 and the sleeve fuel 2.
- the ring will advantageously be equipped with breakthroughs arranged on along its generators to facilitate its fragmentation under the effect of gas pressure.
- the pressure of the gases also has the effect of pushing the belt in its throat 12.
- the conical bottom of the latter allows to take up the wear of the belt on the sides of the barrel. Thus sealing is ensured throughout the interior ballistic phase of the projectile even when firing in worn tubes.
- Such a type of belt also makes it possible to reduce tube wear since the skirt ensures better protection of the walls against hot gases.
- the reliability of the shot is also better, the tightness being ensured throughout the ballistic course.
- Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of the invention.
- This mode differs from the previous one mainly in that the ring 5 and belt 11 are each housed in a groove different from projectile 1.
- the front bead 11 of the belt 9 is housed in a first groove 15 and the spout 13 of the ring 5 is housed in a second annular groove 16.
- the two grooves 15 and 16 both have a conical bottom, the taper is oriented in the same direction and such that the top of the cones is located on the side of a rear rear part of projectile 1.
- a first set J1 remains between a surface of stop 19 disposed at the front of the spout 13 and a rear surface 20 of belt 9.
- the front part 8 of the ring 5 comprises on the one hand the spout 13 ensuring the attachment of the ring to the second groove 16 and on the other hand an internal counterbore 17 which forms a stop intended to cooperate with a stop surface 18 of the projectile 1.
- the dimensions and manufacturing tolerances of different pieces will be chosen such as the second set J2 is greater than the first game J1, this for reasons explained below.
- the counterbore 17 and the spout 13 are connected by a profile conical 21.
- the front part 8 of the ring has at least an internal groove arranged according to a generator and allowing gas to pass through the ring up to the belt.
- grooves 22, regularly distributed angularly are made on the beak 13.
- the conical profile of the first groove 15 allows as in the previous embodiment to ensure, when the advancement of the belt, a catching up of the wear of the belt on the sides of the barrel of the weapon.
- This embodiment also makes it possible to adopt a belt having a skirt 10 of great length and which does not found not degraded by the action of the connecting means.
- the ring 5 allows the belt 9 to be pushed into its throat 15, the abutment surface 19 of the ring acting directly during mounting on the complementary surface 20.
- the clearance J1 being lower than the clearance J2, it is possible to push the belt until it is positioned in its throat 15 and this without the counterbore 17 interfering with the abutment surface 18 of projectile 1.
- the counterbore 17 has the function of ensuring a recovery of the forces during shocks and handling of the ammunition.
- the forces received by projectile 1 are transmitted to the ring 5 through the counterbore 17.
- the belt is not constrained or distorted beyond measure and it retains its full effectiveness when fired.
- This embodiment therefore makes it possible to dissociate fully waterproof function provided by the belt 9 and the projectile / shell connection function which is ensured by the connecting ring 5.
- the projectile 1 shown schematically on this figure is for example a caliber projectile, like a hollow charge projectile.
- provision will be made advantageously a means ensuring the rotational connection of ring 5 with projectile 1.
- mounting by clipping of the nozzles 13 in the first groove 16 does not ensure a fastening in rotation by friction of a level sufficient to prevent pivoting of the projectile by relation to the ring as a result for example of vibrations suffered by the ammunition.
- At least one obstacle such as a pin 24 which is housed in a hole made radially in the projectile 1.
- the pin 24 will have a diameter substantially equal to the width of the groove 22. Its height will be less than the depth of the groove so as not to prohibit the gas passage.
