Retaining means for fixing a lamp (1) in a reflector opening (2) of a vehicle headlight, including a lamp holder (4) which is disposed on the rear side of the reflector (3) and surrounds at least a portion of the reflector opening (2) by means of two end portions (6) which spring outwards and, with projecting retaining lugs (5), butt against inward-oriented peripheral portions (7) of the reflector opening (2) under initial tension and hold the retaining lugs (5) in a connection which is jointed perpendicular to the axis (8) of the lamp, said connection existing between the retaining lugs (5) and the peripheral portions (7), characterized in that
    the lamp (1) butts by means of a circumferential flange (21) against a peripheral area (11) of the reflector opening (2), said peripheral area (11) serving as a bearing surface, and is held against the peripheral area (11) by flexible retaining elements (17) of the lamp holder (4),
    after insertion of the lamp (1) into the reflector opening (2), the retaining lugs (5) engaging in said reflector opening (2) are located close to the outer surface of the lamp (1) in such a way that the lamp (1) constitutes a part which holds the retaining lugs (5) in place.
  2. Retaining means according to Claim 1, characterized in that, in respect of the retaining lugs (5) which are contiguous with the outer surface of the lamp (1), one retaining lug (5) is disposed on each of the two flexible end portions (6) and an additional retaining lug (5) is disposed between the end portions (6).
  3. Retaining means according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the end portions (6) consist of a strip-shaped sheet-metal spring, which runs in a curve with a wide side face turned towards the axis (8) of the lamp.
  4. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the retaining lugs (5) have a U-shaped end portion (9) which surrounds the peripheral portion (7) of the reflector opening (2), the free-standing side of this U-shaped end portion (9) adjoining the inner peripheral area (10) and its other side adjoining the outer peripheral area (11) of the reflector opening (2), whilst the web rests against the inside (12) of the reflector opening (2) under initial tension.
  5. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the reflector opening (2) has a grooved portion (13) provided on each peripheral portion (7), a portion of the retaining lug (5) being disposed in this grooved portion (13) so as to lie substantially flush.
  6. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the flexible end portions (6) run adjacent to the external side of a collar (14) surrounding the reflector opening (2) and pass through recesses (15) in the collar (14) by means of their retaining lugs (5).
  7. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that a plurality of flexible retaining elements (17), oriented towards the socket (16) of the lamp (1), project from the lamp holder (4), said retaining elements (17) serving for the automatic fixing of the lamp (1) on the reflector (3).
  8. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 7, characterized in that a flexible retaining element (17), which serves for the automatic fixing of the lamp (1) on the reflector (3), is associated with each retaining lug (5).
  9. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 8, characterized in that a separate retaining element (24) is fixed to the lamp holder (4), said retaining element (24) spanning the reflector opening (2) and serving to hold the lamp (1) in the reflector opening (2).
  10. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the lamp holder (4) is stamped out from a sheet-metal billet, the retaining lugs (5) being made in one piece with the lamp holder (4) and taking the form of tongues which project from the end portions (6).
  11. Retaining means according to one of Claims 1 to 10, characterized in that a diaphragm (19), passing through the reflector opening (2) and associated with a light source (18) of the lamp (1), is attached to the lamp holder (4) by means of supporting arms (20).
  12. Retaining means according to Claim 11, characterized in that the supporting arms (20) of the diaphragm (19) are connected so as to be integral with the lamp holder (4) by way of the retaining lugs (5).
