Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure Hinged Chain-Saw Safety Guard The purpose of the invention "Hinged Chain-Saw Safety Guard" is to increase protection during the portable operation of a chain-saw, at any height and angle, by having a hinged guard that is raised by the lifting wings during the cutting movement of the cutting chain-saw blade when it enters into the wood required to be cut. After the cutting operation of the wood is com-pleted, the hinged chain-saw guard will immediately return to its normal position by a tension spring, for maximum protection. The "Hinged Chain-Saw Safety Guard" may be in kit form so that it may be easily attached to existing chain-saws or it may be incorpor-ated as part of chain-saw housing that is newly produced.

Description

S~ecificat-ion '~ls invention relates to -the improved safe portable operation of a Chain-Saw at any level or angle when cutting trees and branches at different positions and heightsO The present common methocl for operating a Chain~Saw in a portable manner i5 not to utilize any -type of safety guard. Without the use of a guard, the Chain-Saw alone does not provide the same safety achi~vernent during operation as one that încorporates the proposed guard des:i~n ~or a por-table wood cutting operatlon. It is evident that the advantage of a Guide is that it improves the safe operation of a Chain-Saw.

In drawings which illustrate embodimerlts of the i,nvention FIGU'RE 1 is a pictorial illustrcl-tion of a Guard at-tached to a Chain-Saw. ~IGURE ~ is a pictorial illustrat:ion of~a separate Guar(1 assembly t,hat ls to be at;tached to a Chain-Saw for an improved saEe portable wood cutt:in~r op~ration.

The Hin~e~l Chain-Saw Guar(l may be attached to existin~
Chain-Saws with Part 1 brackets.

The Guard~ Part L~, is hinged with Part 2 for saf'e operation of chain-saw when i-t is fed into wood for cutt;ng.

A sloring, Part 3 9 prov;.cles the dot~n~ward novement of ~.he hi.ngecl gllartl for- safety af-ter the chain~saw cuts t.he re~uired ~rood.

The lif-ti.ng l~i.ngs~ Part 5, located on both ~sides of the guard, Par-t 1~, raise the guard gradual.y as the chain-saw blade cu-ts :i.nto the wood for safe cut-ti.ng opera-tion with chain-sal~r.

The hin~,ed port;.on o:~ chain-saw, Part 1.? may be incorpor~
ated into the design of the chain-saw rnotor housing cover or it may be a complete chain-saw g~uard assembly, as illustrated. This t;ype o~ hinged guard design may be assernbled to an existing chai.n-saw as a k;.-t attachment.

~E~51fL~cat~lon This invention reLates to tjhe improved safe portable operation c~f a Chain~Sat~r a-t any level or an~le when cutting trees and branches at different positlons and heigrhts, The present common method for operating a Chain-Saw in a portabl.e manner is no-t to u-tilize any -type of safety guarcl. T~ thout the use of a guard, the Chain-Saw alone does not provide the same sa:rety achievement, duri.ng operation as one that incorpora-tes the proposed guard design for a portable wood cutting opera-tion. It :is ev.ident that the advantage of a Guide is that, i.t improves the safe operat on of a Chain-Saw.

The hinged portion of chain-saw, Pa.rt 1, may be ;.ncorpor-ated lnto -the design of the chain-saw motor housing cover or it may be a complete chain-saw guard assembly7 as ill.ustrated, This t,ype o~ hingecl guarcl design may be assemb1ed to an existing chain-saw as a k:i-t at-tachment,

Claims

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

(1) Safe portable operation of Chain-Saw is improved with the Hinged Chain-Saw Safety Guard Design when it is attached to an existing chain-saw.

(2) Hinged Chain-Saw Safety Guard may be assembled to an existing chain saw as a kit attachment as defined in
claim 1 or a portion of the hinge design assembly may be incorporated into the complete unit design of the chain-saw motor housing cover.

(3) The Hinged Chain-Saw Safety Guard provides improved safe operation of a chain-saw at different levels and angles as defined in Claim 1 by separating the cutting chain from the operator by the guard position and by shielding sawdust and chips from the operator during operation. In a kickback operating situation, the hinged chain-saw guard would make contact with the wood being cut before it makes contact with the saw cutting chain or the operator.
